Recycling of Garbage -

Notice from Mijas Town Hall

To all the citizens of Mijas:

The RECYCLING of garbage is OBLIGATORY. This means that you can not deposit glass, paper, cardboard nor containers in the ORGANIC CONTAINERS.

It costs the municipality more than 107€ per ton of organic garbage, this means that it is prohibited to deposit any other garbage that is not organic in these containers.

It costs the municipality 0€ to recycle glass, paper, cardboard and containers and the money generated from this recycling goes towards employing people that have families whose members have been a long period of time out

of work. So the necessity to recycle is double: TO SAVE MONEY AND BE SOLIDARY WITH THE NEEDY.

Organic garbage smells, so for HEALTH reasons, there is a timetable to deposit organic garbage in it’s containers from 9PM to 12 midnight.

Even though this letter is informative we ask for your collaboration, but do warn that if the Police catch any citizen depositing un-recycled garbage into the organic garbage, they will be fined according to the Municipal Bylaws.

Fines will also be applied to those that leave their garbage loose or in bags outside the containers on the floor.

Please, find the point of containers near to your property. There is a timetable to deposit organic garbage in the containers (grey) from Sunset to 12pm. In Summer, from 9 pm-12pm.

The rest of the garbage such as: glass, paper, cardboard and containers can be deposited in their recycling containers at any time of day.

Various other type of wastes

Apart from the standard recycling bins where are the Green, Yellow and Blue bins, the Town Hall has also created several mobile points for the various other type of wastes we produce that cannot be disposed of in these containers.

These wastes include, furniture and building material for which you should call 616 489 114, and others like cooking oil, batteries and other electronic parts.
